New priorities for New Zealand aid

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is a humanitarian agency that delivers aid and development in 120 countries worldwide. ADRA has an extensive network of offices throughout the Asia Pacific region with a reputation for delivering programmes of a high standard. It is through this network that ADRA NZ operates, often jointly funding larger programmes to deliver cost-effective aid and development.

ADRA NZ fully supports the renewed focus towards the Pacific, agrees with the Governments focus towards measurable results in programme and that it is to be more co-ordinated with other donors in the respective countries. However with the shift of focus to sustainable economic development, we would like to encourage that the delivery of aid reaches those most in need.

“We are mindful that the Millennium Development Goals are an important framework to deliver aid to where it is most needed. ADRA NZ is supportive of the government increasing the aid budget for 2009/2010 and plans to increase each year thereafter. This is good news for development partners.” says ADRA NZ Executive Director Clinton Rappell “We would like to remind the Government that the goal of 0.7% has already been agreed to by 2015 and more may be required to achieve this goal.”
