Vietnam, Binh Phuoc Livelihood Improvement Project (BPLIP)

Duration: 60 months
Start Date: 1 July 2008
End Date: 30 June 2013
Donors: ADRA NZ, HELP International
Location: Binh Phuoc, Thu Doc, Vietnam
09/10 Budget: NZ$154,847

Binh Phuoc is one of the poorest provinces in Vietnam where rubber tree plantations are common and small communities are living in scattered settlements making a living from growing cashew nuts, pepper corns and livestock husbandry programmes.

In the areas targeted by the BPLIP project the majority of the participants are handicapped by blindness or loss of limbs, suffer from the effects of malnutrition, and some are classed as being an ethnic minority and live on the worst plots of land with limited support from the community due to language barriers.

This project specifically aims at increasing income from livestock through an animal loan program and running technical skills trainings for livestock husbandry and health and safety trainings for farmers. Also, this project aims to increase knowledge and awareness through campaigns on health and nutrition, education, and assists the communities with upgrading their often malfunctioning water supplies.
