Mau has always worked in rice fields, finding labor when available. Despite his hard work, he had growing concerns that both he and his wife would need to leave their family in order to find better work overseas. This would mean leaving his 2 children with their grandparents, a decision many from his village face in order to provide for their family.
Through an ADRA project, Mau was contracted to help install latrines and tanks for his village. ADRA aims to empower communities through offering local employment opportunities where possible. For Mau, this gave him the capital, confidence and experience he needed to start his own business.
Mau now makes a stable income by transporting water for others and his wife runs a small shop at their gate.
The stable income means that Mau and his wife are able to stay with their children and watch them grown up. The family has also been able to rebuild their house, they used to have a low house on the ground with a dirt floow that would often get muddy or dusty. Now the family live in a new high house above the ground. Mau’s entire community also now has access to clean water through tanks and safe latrines thanks to work that Mau helped to do.
Your support is helping families like Mau’s through community building projects. Thank you for your support.
